In 2017, Devoe Park was in disarray and the City Parks Foundation called for action. There was litter scattered throughout the park, graffiti that covered the walls and broken property on the grounds. A group of volunteers organized to answer the City Parks Foundation’s call. “Friends of Devoe Park (FODP)” is the nonprofit organization devoted to the improvement of Devoe Park.
For over half a decade, Friends of Devoe Park, or the “Devoetees”, have been committed to the welfare of Devoe Park. They have organized and worked hard to keep the park free of litter, graffiti and damaged property. FODP’s hard work is paying off. Devoe Park has scored over 80% on the last ten park condition inspections performed by the New York City Parks and Recreation Department.
The Devoetees strive to continue improving the park’s conditions. Friends of Devoe Park is more than committed to bringing a safe and dignified green space to their small community in the Concrete Jungle; FODP has been successful in doing so.
